How We Test
Our methodology: how products are chosen, tested, scored and kept up to date.
1. Choosing what to test
We focus on products that real households buy and ask questions about. We use sales rankings, owner feedback, search interest and editor knowledge to build a shortlist, then add promising newcomers that could change the category.
2. Testing in real conditions
Products are used the way you would use them: at home, over weeks, in ordinary daily routines. We test the same tasks across competing products so differences are meaningful and comparisons are fair.
3. Scoring
Every product is scored out of ten against weighted criteria that suit its category — typically performance, ease of use, running cost and value, design and build, and additional features. The weights are stated in each review.
4. What we do not do
- We do not accept payment for reviews, placement or scores.
- We do not run independent laboratory testing unless explicitly stated. Manufacturer specifications and certifications are labelled as such.
- We do not copy competitors’ rankings.
5. Updates and corrections
Prices, models and our own opinions change, so we revisit published tests and update the date at the top when we do. If you spot an error, please tell us and we will correct it promptly.
